With a father who was a glass artist, Maya Wakabayashi was exposed from an early age to the vivid colors and transparency, the delicacy and strength, the very dichotomies of the medium of glass; a beauty which she felt was not present in other expressive media. She was also attracted by the hammer wielding forging techniques of metalwork and honed her craftsmanship at the Tokyo University of the Arts through graduate school. During her studies, she became singularly obsessed with the “presence which cannot be seen” such as "spirit" or "mind", creating works that represent the image of how people have come to embrace nature.
With this current exhibition, the artist presents two new series of works will be displayed: “Out of Control” expresses the self of pets and children, while “Heart of the Flower” portrays the shining moment of flowers and minds.
