アラン・ラボワールは、1968年フランス、ボルドー生まれ。
彫刻家として石膏による人物像を作っていましたが、昆虫に興味が向き、鉄による昆虫作品を制作。2004年突然写真に目覚め、昆虫を撮影しますが、こんどはその興味が6人の子供たちに向くようになります。自然の中で天真爛漫にふるまう子供たちと猫との生活を撮影した作品は、愛情があふれ、ときにユーモラスであるだけでなく、独特なアングルや、シャッターのタイミングの絶妙さには驚くべきものがあり、単なる家族のスナップ写真とは異なるユニークでエキサイティングな写真作品になっています。彼は、ジョック・スタージスの薫陶を受けており、今回展示するプリントはシアトルのスタージスのスタジオでプリントされたものです。

Alain Laboile is a French photographer living in Bordeaux. He
had made plaster portraits, as a sculptor, before making the shaggy insects of
iron. In 2004 he accidently got into photography. At first he photographed
insects, then his interest turned to his six children, and cats. His works are
not just snap shots but quite exciting and special photographs, because his
photo-eye is very warm and unique.
This is his first solo show in Japan. We will exhibit 25 of
his B/W prints printed at Jock Sturges' studio.
